The French Live 8
concerts were hosted in the Versailles, a historical city near Paris.
Versailles, formerly the capital city of the kingdom of France, is now a wealthy
suburb of Paris. (It is still an important administrative and judicial center.)
Versailles on the castle esplanade saw an Live 8 concert audience of close
to 200,000. The French Live 8 concert was mostly free but 20,000
VIP passes were available through an SMS competition.
Initially, the Live 8 concert was to be set in the Tuileries Park in Paris.
It was later moved to Versailles to accommodate a larger audience and
to preserve the Tuilerie monuments.
The 200,000 plus concert goers that gathered to witness
the Live 8 Paris event enjoyed the splendor of their setting near the
17th century Palace (once home to King Louis XIV). The Columbian
babe Shakira shook her stuff showing off another one of her signature
gyrations and the crowd went wild.
The crowd were treated to musical acts such as Andrea Bocelli, Axelle
Red, Calogero, Cerrone, Nile Rogers, Craig David, The Cure, David Hallyday,
Diam's, Dido, Disiz La Peste, Faudel, Florent Pagny, Johnny Hallyday,
Kool Shen, Kyo Louis Bertignac, Muse, Placebo, Renaud, Tina Arena, Yannick
Noah, and the fantastic Youssou N'dour. The details of the Live 8 Paris
DVD are yet to be announced but highlights of the Live 8 France event
