Agatha Kristi at Live 8
Agata Kristi ; also known as Agatha Christie is a
band that has a rock 'n roll sound from the 90s. They often have very
deep and poetic lyrics.
There are more links to the band "Agata Kristy" (Agatha Christie
in Russian) than to the famous English writer. The band appeared in 1988
as a student's band of the Urals Polytechnic University. The roots of
the "Agata Kristy" music are in the mix of symphonic- and art-rock,
rock-n-roll and decadence. The latest "AK" style is a unique
mix of electronic and guitar music. There is an emotional, heart-rending,
dash and expressive manner of singing. "Agata Kristy" lyrics
unite elements of gothic culture and psychoanalysis.
The composition of the band remains without changes
during all its history:
Vadim Samoilov - solo, guitar
Gleb Samoilov - solo, bass
Andrey Kotov - drums
Alexander Kozlov - keyboard; after his tragic death the band started using
computer during the gigs. Keyboard parts of all old and new songs are
stored in this computer.
"Agata Kristy" is the only Russian rock band that has been awarded four times with the "Ovation" ("Ovacija") Russian National Music Prize:
1995 - "The Best Band Of The Year"
1995 - "The Best Album" ("Opium")
1996 - "The Best Song Of The Year" ("Morjak"("Seaman"))
2001 - "The Best Rock Band Of Decade"
"Agata Kristy" has also won several international music awards:
1991 - Grand-Prix "Open du Rock", France
(young European bands festival)
1997 - World Music Awards, Monte-Carlo (as a best sell album performer
in own country)
"Agata Kristy" took part in the "New Beginnings" event (1989, Glasgow, UK), and after its gig "The Times" called them "The Hot Bed of the Show".
"Agata Kristy" is a leader of many national hit parades of different years.
Today's "Agata Kristy" has 16 albums, 14 videos and 4 music films. Also the band is the author of the original soundtrack for the "Sisters" movie (director Sergey Bodrov-jr)
The band has many all-Russia stadium concert tours
and foreign gigs in Scotland, Denmark, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Monte-Carlo,
USA and former Czechoslovakia, more than once in France, Germany and Israel.
There are many fan clubs in Russia, the proactive band fan club exists
in Germany. Also there is "Agata Kristy Revival band" in Czech
Republic, which sings original "Agata Kristy" songs.
Moreover the band is a constant participant of the all-Russia and CIS
open air rock festivals, where quantity of participants exceeds 70 thousand
people.
Now "Agata Kristy"
closely works on new album. At the same time the band works on the Alexander
Kozlov tribute, soundtrack for the new Russian movie and joint performance
of the Alexander Vertinsky songs.
