Snow Patrol at Live 8

Snow Patrol is a band that got their start in Northern Ireland. It began with two friends that met in Dundee. Originally Snow Patrol was using the name Polar Bear, and released their first three track EP titled "Starfighter Pilot" under the label Electric Honey. Due to legal threats from an American band with the same naem, they changed their's to Snow Patrol.

After an early period of line-up changes, Snow Patrol met drummer Johnny Quinn and recorded a demo that was noticed by the influential Jeepster Records. The band was actually the second band to sign to fledgling label, now better known as the home of Belle & Sebastian.

An album was recorded over successive weekends, Songs For Polar Bears, and it was released in August of 1998. They followed up by touring to support their efforts and all the reviews of their shows were stellar.

In 2003, Snow Patrol released the album Final Straw. Final Straw climbed up the UK charts to peak at #3. The released 3 singles from that album including "Chocolate", "Spitting Games", and "How to Be Dead".

On March 16, 2005, Mark McClelland left Snow Patrol and in April 2005, Snow Patrol declared longtime touring keyboardist Tom Simpson an official member of the band.

Snow Patrol provided support at the Hyde Park Live 8 event on July 2, 2005 and at the Scotland Final Push event on July 6, 2005.
