Travis at Live 8

The band Travis was formed in Glasgow, Scotland from the ashes of local act called the Glass Onion. It was not until the 2 original members left in 1994 that Dougie Payne joined the band on bass.

The band features Francis Healy - vocals, Andy Dunlop, guitar - Dougie Payne - bass and Neil Primrose - drums. They did most of their rehearsing at The Horseshoe Bar where Neil had once worked.

In 1996 they decided to move from Scotland to London to become more serious about heir music.

Travis' self-released debut EP, All I Wanna Do Is Rock, came out in the fall of 1996. With its serious vocals and towering guitars, it caught the spirit of British rock at the time.

Shortly after they were the very first band to be signed to Independiente Records. (Independiente Records was a new record label that was started by Andy McDonald following he departure from Go! Discs)

In 1997 they released their first "real" single titled "U16 Girls,". A few months later, their critically acclaimed full-length debut Good Feeling arrived. The following year they began sessions with producer Nigel Godrich for the follow-up to album titled Good Feeling.

In 1999 they released The Man Who. This album was much slower and darker type of music, but it showed the press and their fans that they had the ability to change and adapt their musical skills. This album brought the singles 'Writing To Reach You', 'Driftwood', 'Why Does It Always Rain On Me?' and 'Turn'. Alll of these tracks reached top 20 status

In 2000, The Man Who appeared on U.S. shores. The decided to support their album by going on tour with the band Oasis. At the 2000 Brit Awards, Travis came away with Best Album and Best Group for 'The Man Who'. Also this year, Fran won a prestigious song writing award, an Ivor Novello.

In 2001, they released the album titled The Invisible Band and toured with Dido. Two years later, the band issued 12 Memories.

Travis hit the Live 8 stage this July with three great songs. They even managed to ad lib with a little Bee Gees number called Stayin' Alive part way through their song Side.

(The band named themselves after the character "Travis" from the movie Paris, Texas (1983). The movie Paris, Texas is the story of a man filled with emotional intricacy who is given an unexpected chance to disengage his pain and sadness as well as those of people associated to him.)
